摘要:The creation of a Wide Area Monitoring System (WAMS) has been established as an effective solution for many of the challenges faced by modern power systems. However, the complexity and cost of a WAMS means that it is not simple to determine its optimal nature or to justify the use of customer money to create it. VISOR is an innovation project in Great Britain (GB) that, through collaboration between industry and academia, has created the first WAMS to integrate, study and analyse synchronized measurements from the entire GB system in real time. This paper presents the WAMS that has been created in the GB power system and the oscillation monitoring tools deployed as part of it. These include new source location tools and a novel use of real time waveform measurements to monitor power system oscillations up to 46 Hz. Furthermore, the paper reports a number of performance issues that have been encountered during the creation of this WAMS, which will inform the future roll out of WAMS in GB.
